David Mensing paints with the palette knife. A complicated method that is very difficult for the artist who is just learning to use the palette knife. Although I have palette knife paintings the methods Dave was teaching was different. Starting with a toned canvas, blocking in the painting with a monotone colour) or complimentary) then adding some vibrant colours to the canvas. After the preliminary work is done then he completes the palette knife painting. The hardest part was smoothing and using the edging. No it wasn't the knife, it was they inexperience: but I'd would be happy to say it was the tool.
